WOOD RIVER, Illinois — A gun was taken away from a student at East Alton-Wood River High School just before class early Friday morning, police say.
According to a post on Facebook from the Wood River Police Department, officers responded just before 8 a.m. Friday to the school at 777 N. Wood River Avenue after receiving a report from security that a student had a gun while on campus.
Security found the student inside the school and took the gun away from them without incident.
No one was harmed or threatened by the student, police said.
The student was taken off campus.
"I commend the school administration and school security officer for their actions today. Security procedures they have put into place minimized any further incident that may have occurred," Wood River Police Chief Brad Wells said in the post.
