ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. — A man is facing several charges after breaking into a St. Charles County home earlier this week.

James Conley is facing one count of first-degree burglary and one count of third-degree assault, the St. Charles county Prosecuting Attorney’s Office said.

The incident happened at a home in the 400 block of Woodcrest Boulevard on April 2.

According to a probable cause statement, the homeowner called police and said he saw an unknown man in his home near the rear sliding door. The victim told police he screamed at the suspect – asking who he was and why he was inside his home. That’s when Conley charged at him.

The homeowner said he grabbed his .38 special revolver, which was already on his couch. During the struggle, the homeowner fired one shot at Conley.

Conley was later located by police on the side of a nearby home. He was transported to a hospital for treatment from the gunshot wound.

He’s now in custody of St. Charles County police.
