Man attacked with machete at St. Louis County hotel after confronting suspect about wife's fatal overdose, charges say

He faces five to 15 years for the assault and an additional three years to life in prison for armed criminal action.

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office charged a Florissant man Monday for allegedly attacking another man with a machete at a hotel last weekend. The victim told police he had confronted the man because he believed the man gave his wife drugs that resulted in her fatal overdose.

The office charged Terence Kimbrough, 41, of Florissant, Monday with first-degree assault, which is a Class B felony, and armed criminal action. He faces five to 15 years for the assault and an additional three years to life in prison for armed criminal action. If convicted, he must serve each sentence consecutively.

According to the Hazelwood Police Department, on Sunday, Dec. 3, Kimbrough repeatedly struck another man who was staying at Haven Inn and Suites, located on North Hanley Road in Hazelwood, with a machete.

The victim told investigators the incident began when he confronted Kimbrough because he believed Kimbrough gave his wife drugs that resulted in her death. During the argument, the victim said Kimbrough punched him in the face and then grabbed a machete from his hotel room and swung it at him several times.

Kimbrough admitted that he "started cutting" the victim with his machete after the victim confronted him, but he said the victim had started the fight by trying to hit him first.

Police arrested Kimbrough at the hotel and found the machete in his room.

The victim had injuries to his head, including a large wound on the back of his head. He was taken to an area hospital where he received treatment for his injuries.

A St. Louis County court set Kimbrough's bond at $150,000.
