Husband, wife charged with child endangerment after 1-year-old overdoses on meth and fentanyl, charges say

Police said the child tested positive for methamphetamine and fentanyl while being treated at the ICU.

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — A husband and wife are facing charges after police said they left their 1-year-old near methamphetamine, resulting in an overdose.

Danelle and Christopher Woodard were charged with endangering the welfare of a child in connection with an overdose on Aug. 13. 

According to charging documents, police were called to a home on Battlefield Drive in north St. Louis County for a report of a child overdose. When officers arrived, they found a 1-year-old showing signs of an overdose. Police administered two doses of naloxone on the child, who was then rushed to the hospital for treatment in the pediatric ICU.

While investigating, police interviewed Christopher Woodard. After reading him his Miranda rights, Woodard told police he and his wife were using methamphetamine in the bedroom before placing he 1-year-old child on the bed. Police found a jar in the bedroom that Christopher Woodard said contained methamphetamine as well as a handgun laying on the bed.

During her interview, Danelle Woodard admitted to using methamphetamine. While taking her into custody, police also found a white capsule that Danelle Woodard identified as fentanyl.

The child tested positive for methamphetamine and fentanyl while being treated at the hospital.

Charges said someone petitioned and was granted protective custody of the child and the child's sibling after the Woodards were taken into custody. The charging documents identified the person by their initials.

Danelle Woodard was charged with one count of child endangerment and is being held on a $100,000 bond. Christopher Woodard was charged with child endangerment and unlawful use of a weapon. His bond was also set at $100,000.
