ST. LOUIS — The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department assisted Brooklyn Illinois Police on Saturday morning.

Around 12 a.m., SLMPD officers in District 6 responded to aid during a car pursuit at Interstate 70 near Shreve Avenue. Brooklyn police were chasing a black Jeep Patriot that was reported stolen in Illinois, said police.

According to the SLMPD report, as Brooklyn officers pursued the Jeep in the eastbound lane of I-70, an occupant of the Jeep appeared from the sunroof and fired shots at the police car. As a result, the Brooklyn officer exited the interstate, police said.

No injuries were reported. However, police found multiple shell castings on I-70 where the officers said the incident occurred.
