ST. LOUIS — A St. Louis man is back in custody after St. Louis police said he was involved in a carjacking in July while wearing a GPS monitor after being arrested for a similar incident in St. Louis County.
Darrion Hart, 19, was arrested Thursday and charged on Friday with one count of vehicle hijacking in connection with the July incident. The probable cause statement said they connected Hart to the crime because the GPS monitor he was wearing tracked him to the location of the crime.
According to charging documents, a woman was throwing away trash from her car in the parking lot of a gas station on Hampton Avenue when Hart and a group of other people jumped into her car. The charging documents said the woman jumped onto the hood of the vehicle, but fell off as Hart and the others got away.
According to online court documents, Hart was charged with tampering with a motor vehicle and leaving the scene of an accident in St. Louis County in February. He was wearing a GPS monitor and was ordered to stay away from Pershing Avenue as part of his bond conditions after he posted 10% of his $15,000 bond in April.
According to the charging documents of the July hijacking, Hart was "placed at the scene of at least 25 other crimes" but did not provide additional details. Those cases are being reviewed by the St. Louis Circuit Attorney's Office, according to the charging documents.
On Friday, a judge ordered Hart to be held without bond.
