ST. LOUIS — A jury convicted a St. Louis man Thursday for the 2021 deadly shooting of a man in the city's The Greater Ville neighborhood.
Tyrone Williams, 36, was found guilty of first-degree murder and armed criminal action for shooting and killing 37-year-old Stephen Bosley Byes on Sept. 8, 2021.
Prosecutors said the Williams and Byes both had children with the same woman, and the shooting happened outside her home. They said Byez was concerned that the woman was allowing Williams to stay at her home because there was "a history of domestic abuse between them."
The two men got into a fight hours before the shooting, but neighbors broke it up. Williams then took the woman's car and his daughter and left.
The woman called Williams later in the evening and asked him to bring the car back, which he did. The woman met him at the car and took her daughter back to the house. As she was walking to the house, she heard gunshots.
She said she turned around to see Williams firing shots from her car, and Beys ducked behind his own car. Beys returned fire but was eventually struck and collapsed to the ground. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to a press release from Circuit Attorney Gabe Gore's Office, the jury deliberated for less than four hours before finding Williams guilty. First-degree murder carries a mandatory life sentence without probation or parole. A sentencing date was set for Dec. 6.
