BERKELEY, Mo. — A man who offered a woman a ride home instead drove her around for hours and pushed her out of his speeding car in Berkeley when she begged to go home, court documents said.

Samuel Ronnell Boyd was charged Monday with first-degree kidnapping and first-degree assault in the incident, which left the woman with severe injuries.

According to court documents, Boyd, 38, and the woman were near the area of 6200 Washington Ave. in Berkeley on Sunday when she asked him if she could have a ride home. Boyd agreed but instead drove to a liquor store in St. Louis.

The victim asked Boyd where they were going and said she wanted to be taken home, but instead Boyd went inside the store and bought alcohol, police said. She again asked him to take her home, but Boyd then drove to his cousin's roadside memorial, parked the car and began talking with people she didn't know.

While at the memorial, the woman said Boyd put his hands under her clothes and inappropriately touched her, and she told him to stop. She repeatedly asked to be taken home.

When they got back into the car, Boyd continued to drive around for about an hour, charging documents said, all while the woman repeatedly asked to be taken home.

Boyd was driving down Airport Road as the woman continued to ask to go home, at which point Boyd "became upset" and pushed her out of the car while he was driving about 80 mph, police said.

Boyd kept driving, and a passerby found the woman and called an ambulance. She suffered serious injuries, including "severe brain problems" and a broken hand, police said.

Police identified Boyd as the suspect after an investigation and located the car he had used. The victim later identified him out of a photo lineup.

During a police interview, Boyd admitted that he drove to the liquor store and the memorial with the woman, but he claimed that she accidentally fell out of the car on Airport Road.

Boyd said he couldn't go back and help her "because his phone was dead," documents said.

Boyd was being held at the St. Louis County Jail on $250,000 bond.
