LAKE ST LOUIS, Mo. — A Lake St. Louis man is facing hate crime and assault charges after shouting racial slurs and death threats at one of his neighbors while trying to kick in her front door, court documents say.

Blair Alan Kosa, 36, was arrested Tuesday by officers with the Lake St. Louis Police Department.

Officers responded to a report of an ongoing assault in the 3300 block of Connor Way detained and spoke to Kosa before they found the victim, according to a Lake St. Louis Police Department spokesperson.

The victim told police she feared for her life because Kosa kicked her front door multiple times in an attempt to enter her apartment while shouting racist slurs, the report said.

"During our interaction, Kosa's mood would rapidly change from calm to hostile and belligerent demeanor," a police officer wrote in a report. "Kosa blamed his neighbors for calling the police."

After he was arrested, Kosa continued to make several racist death threats, using slurs, police said.

"In addition to these statements, Kosa threatened several officers and their families, saying he was going to murder them," court records say. "At the police station, Kosa was placed into a secure booking area where he slammed a phone receiver against a wall, which broke the phone receiver beyond repair."

Kosa faces the following criminal charges:

  • Attempted burglary
  • Two counts of fourth-degree assault
  • Harassment motivated by discrimination to frighten or disturb another person
  • First-degree property damage
  • Damage to jail/jail property

Kosa caused about $1,000 worth of damage to the victim's door, court records say. Damage estimates for the phone Kosa broke while in custody are pending. His bond was set at $20,000.

Court documents say surveillance footage captured Kosa's attempt to break into the home.

According to court documents, those threats were captured by police body-worn cameras. 5 On Your Side submitted a sunshine request to the Lake St. Louis Police Department for that footage.
