ST. LOUIS — A man has been sentenced for fatally shooting a 35-year-old man in the Wells Goodfellow neighborhood.
Davon Griffin-Curry, 20, was sentenced on Monday to life in prison plus five years to be served consecutively. He was found guilty of second-degree murder and armed criminal action.
According to the Circuit Attorney's Office, on July 12, 2022, Griffin-Curry shot Rickey Lathan during a dispute on Semple Avenue.
Lathan was in his front yard with his 10-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter setting off fireworks around 11 p.m., the press release from the Circuit Attorney's Office said. A bottle rocket shot across Semple and hit Griffin-Curry's grandparents' house. Ronald Curry Sr., Griffin-Curry's grandfather, walked out of the house angry and confronted Lathan.
Griffin-Curry and his brother ran out of their grandparents' house while firing 9 mm weapons, the report said. Lathan was shot 10 times and died on the scene.
Griffin-Curry's brother was sentenced as an adult. He was convicted of second-degree murder and armed criminal action in April and sentenced to 22 years in prison, the Circuit Attorney's Office said.
