Individual arrested, charged with armed violence in connection to Macomb house party shooting

The person killed in the shooting has not been identified, but police did say they are not a student at Western Illinois University.

MACOMB, Ill. — One person is dead and several others are recovering from gunshot wounds following an overnight house party shooting in Macomb, according to the Macomb Police Department

Officers responded to a call of shots fired in the 500 block of N Johnson Street around 1:55 a.m. Saturday. Police initially reported that multiple people were wounded and sent to McDonough District Hospital in Macomb while one person was pronounced dead at the scene.

Area law enforcement teamed up to place the hospital on lockdown as a "precautionary measure."

The person killed in the shooting has not been identified, but police did say they are not a student at Western Illinois University.

Later Saturday afternoon, police told News 8 that 10 people were injured in the shooting. Of those 10, six are students at Western Illinois University. Police didn't disclose any more information on the victims' identities.

WIU posted on Facebook that all athletic events are canceled for the weekend, but other events will continue as scheduled. 

Sunday afternoon, police reported that they had located one person of interest and questioned them. The person was arrested and charged with armed violence, which is a Class X felony. 

Police also served a search warrant and collected more evidence. However, police are not revealing some details "so as to not compromise the investigation."
