Police searching for driver in deadly Madison County hit-and-run crash

MADISON COUNTY, Ill. — CrimeStoppers and Illinois State Police are asking for the public's assistance in finding the driver in a hit-and-run crash that left a cyclist dead on last month in Madison County.

According to release from CrimeStoppers, 43-year-old Pablo Puente of Edwardsville was reported missing on Oct. 3 to the Madison County Sheriff's Department. Family members said they last saw him the day before leaving home on his 29-inch Giordano Intrepid Carbon Aluminum Frame Mountain Bike.

Puente was found dead at about 2:40 p.m. on Oct. 4 along Illinois Route 143 near Kendall Drive, according to CrimeStoppers. Investigation revealed he had been hit by a vehicle that fled the scene. His bike was not found.

Anyone with information can anonymously share a tip with CrimeStoppers by calling 1-866-371-TIPS (8477), visiting stlrcs.org or using the P3 Tips app. Tips that lead to the arrest of the suspect responsible for the deadly hit-and-run crash could receive a reward of up to $5,000.
