ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — A 20-year-old St. Louis County man was charged with murder in connection with a Feb. 15 deadly shooting after police said he told his mother he would "take care of" a person who she said tried to assault her.

Prosecutors charged Brandyn Hargrove with first-degree murder and multiple other crimes on June 27 in connection with the Feb. 15 deadly shooting of James Teague Jr. He was arrested on Tuesday.

According to the probable cause statement, Hargrove and his mother were riding in a car that pulled onto the parking lot of Go Go Mini Mart on Chambers Road. Police said Hargrove's mother pointed to a car and said it was the car of the man who tried to assault her.

Police said Hargrove, who was armed with a gun, told her "I'll take care of this." According to the probable cause statement, Hargrove opened fire when Teague walked out of the store, killing him.

Police said Hargrove's mother and the driver of the car identified Hargrove as the shooter.

Hargrove was charged with first-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon and two counts of armed criminal action. As of Wednesday, he was being held on a $500,000, cash-only bond.
