Caught on camera: 72-year-old man carjacked outside popular Richmond Heights rec center

​Police said the man was at his car when three men walked up to him and asked to use his phone to make a call.

RICHMOND HEIGHTS, Mo. — Richmond Heights police are searching for three people who carjacked a 72-year-old man at gunpoint Wednesday evening in Richmond Heights.

The carjacking, which happened at around 5:50 p.m. outside The Heights recreation center on Dale Avenue, was captured on security footage.

Police said three men walked up to the man and asked to use his phone to make a call. One of them then pulled out a handgun and demanded his wallet and keys.

The trio got into the man's red 2020 Buick Encore with Missouri license plate NJ9 W5G. They were last seen driving west on Dale Avenue toward South Hanley Road.

Surveillance footage pictures three people who took a man's car at gunpoint Wednesday in Richmond Heights.

Police shared surveillance footage that showed the group walking through the building and later taking the man's car in the parking lot. 

Anyone who recognizes the suspects or sees the victim's car is asked to contact the police department at 314-655-3610 or leave and anonymous tip at 314-655-3555.
