ST. LOUIS — A man is now facing four felonies after police say he broke into several high-profile locations including the Contemporary Art Museum, St. Louis University and Grand Center Arts Academy in just a few hours.

St. Louis Circuit Attorney Gabe Gore’s Office charged Julius Butler, 31, with two counts of stealing, one count of burglary and one count of property damage for a spree of incidents that happened April 3.

Police say he stole an iPad tablet from the Contemporary Art Museum and damaged a sculpture there. Police caught him in front of the KDHX building with the stolen iPad a short distance away, according to court documents.

He climbed a drain pipe, opened a second-story window and ransacked two offices at St. Louis University, according to the documents. Charging documents also said he stole a purse, which he returned, and a jacket belonging to a student at the Grand Center Arts Academy.

Police say a witness saw Butler in the teacher's lounge and asked him if he worked there, which he said he didn't before walking out of the school with the purse he later returned.

Butler already has two burglary cases which he pleaded guilty to and was supposed to complete treatment court, but failed to attend, according to court documents. Court documents said he is being held without bond.
