ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — Police are working to find a 43-year-old St. Louis man who was charged in the 2023 overdose death of a toddler in St. Louis County.
The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's office on Thursday issued an at-large warrant for Alphonso Huntley, who is charged with one count of endangering the welfare of a child resulting in death.
According to the St. Louis County Police Department, on Sept. 18, Huntley left his fentanyl accessible while 2-year-old Mecca Hardwrict-Aaten was in his care on the 4000 block of Jenny Drive.
The boy ingested the fentanyl and later died; police said a medical examiner determined the opioid, along with "other substances," to be his cause of death.
Fentanyl residue was found in the room where Huntley and the boy were staying. Huntley also tested positive for fentanyl and admitted to using it, police said.
Huntley was not yet in custody as of Thursday. Police asked anyone with information on his location to contact the St. Louis County Police Department at 636-529-8210.
The police department's Bureau of Crimes Against Persons detectives are leading the investigation.
