Man charged in connection with hit-and-run crash that injured 15-year-old girl in Florissant

Family members said Friday the teenager is out of intensive care, talking and doing better.

FLORISSANT, Mo. — A man has been charged in connection with a hit-and-run crash involving a 15-year-old girl in Florissant, police said. 

The Florissant Police Department said that Christopher Carnes, 34, has been charged by the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in physical injury. 

Florissant police said officers responded on June 3 to the 3200 block of Lindbergh Boulevard for a report of a crash involving a pedestrian. Officers found 15-year-old Turkia Jones with multiple injuries. Witnesses observed the suspect vehicle leave the scene, police said.

Carnes was later arrested and confessed to the incident, Florissant police said in a Facebook post. He is being held at the St. Louis County Jail on a $25,000 bond.

Family members told 5 On Your Side Friday the teenager is out of intensive care, talking and doing better. 

Her family said on June 7 she suffered numerous injuries and underwent three surgeries.

A GoFundMe campaign was started to help Jones with her medical expenses.
