Man convicted of killing co-worker

De Shawn Johnson, 24, was found guilty of second-degree murder in the death of his Dobbs Tire & Auto Center coworker

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. — A man was convicted of the murder of his coworker after a shooting in Maryland Heights in January 2023.

De Shawn Johnson, 24, shot and killed Reginald Brandy after a fight at Dobbs Tire & Auto where they both worked.

The shooting happened on January 4, 2023. The tire store is at 12626 Dorsett Road in Maryland Heights.

Police said two Dobbs employees, 52-year-old Reginald Brandy and 23-year-old De Shawn Johnson, got into an argument while at work. Police said Johnson then shot Brandy multiple times. Brandy later died from his injuries.

Johnson was taken into custody at the scene of the shooting. 

The St. Louis County Prosecutor's Office said Johnson owned the gun and had with him at the time of the shooting. 

The case was decided before a judge in a bench trial. Sentencing was scheduled for December 12. The sentencing range is three to 15 years in prison.

DeShawn Johnson, 23, was charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in connection with a deadly shooting of a co-worker at a Dobbs store.

"No one should experience violence in the workplace let alone lose their life," St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Wesley Bell said. "This verdict holds this defendant accountable for this senseless violence and loss of life."

Bell is running for office in the U.S. House of Representatives.
