ST. LOUIS — On Friday, just after 3:30 p.m., a 44-year-old man was stabbed multiple times in St. Louis City. Police said the victim is now in critical condition at a local hospital.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department responded to reports of the stabbing on Friday by sending officers from District Three to the scene near Grand Boulevard and Miami Street—by Gravois Park.

The identity of the man injured is unknown. However, videos of the incident circulated on Facebook show the man in a fetal position on the ground with blood covering his hands and face while the suspect jabs him multiple times with a knife. The video viewed by 5 On Your Side showed there were multiple witnesses during the time of the attack.

Just hours after the attack, a suspect was taken into custody, and a stolen car was recovered, police said.  The details leading up to the stabbing were still under investigation Saturday afternoon.

This incident adds to the 176 aggravated assault crimes and 144 Burglary crimes reported so far this year in District Three, according to the SLMPD Compstat weekly report. So far, the crime this year in that district has worsened since 2023, the statistics from police show.

In comparison there were only 158 aggravated assault crimes reported and 120 burglary crimes reported in the same period last year, according to the SLMPD Compstat weekly report.

Friday's stabbing comes just months after St. Louis was selected as one of three cities in dire need of the Department of Justice's additional crime-fighting resources.
