ST. CHARLES, Mo. – A 47-year-old man is in custody after firing multiple shots at officers during a standoff in St. Charles early Sunday morning.

According to the St. Charles Police Department, the incident occurred in the 1100 block of Pike Street around 12:45 a.m. while officers were responding to a civil stand-by.

While trying to make contact with someone in the home, an officer heard the sound of a gun being charged, or loaded. The officer took cover and Kevin Gorski fired one shot at the responding officers from inside the residence. An officer returned fire, firing once at the suspect.

Negotiators and the St. Charles Regional SWAT team responded after officers saw the suspect looking out the window of the front door holding a weapon. Gorski fired at least two more shots towards the SWAT armored vehicle.

Tactical officers were preparing to enter the home when police say Gorski exited the residence and surrendered.

Two officers have been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation, per department policy.

No officers were injured.

Gorski has been charged with four counts of assaulting a law enforcement officer.
