ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Ill. — A man is back in police custody after he kicked out the back window of a police car and slid out in an attempt to get away, St. Clair County Sheriff's Deputies said.

Daniel J. Reed, 23, was charged with one count of possession of methamphetamine, one count of damaging government property and one count of escape after the early morning incident.

Police said they took Reed into custody late Tuesday night for erratic driving and suspected possession of methamphetamine. Deputies said while in police custody, he complained of medical issues, so they prepared to take him to Belleville Memorial Hospital.

He was loaded into the back of a police car with his hands cuffed and shackled at the ankles.

Even though there were two officers in the car, he kicked out a rear window and slid out of the car. He tried to run away but was quickly caught.

He was taken to Belleville Memorial Hospital for treatment of his original complaint.

His bond was set at $30,000.
