ST. LOUIS — A St. Louis man was sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty in connection with the death of his roommate.
Scipio M. Clark, 48, was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty to one count of voluntary manslaughter in connection with the shooting death of 53-year-old Richard Brock.
Clark was originally charged with first-degree murder, armed criminal action and unlawful firearm possession. Prosecutors dismissed the counts of armed criminal action and illegal gun possession as part of the plea deal. The case was set to go to trial on Nov. 6.
According to an incident report from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, police got a call for a shooting at around 9:45 p.m. on Sept. 20, 2022, in the 3900 block of Chippewa Street. When they arrived, officers found Brock inside the apartment with a gunshot wound to the head.
Police said a witness told officers Clark fatally shot Brock in the head after an argument. Police found Clark's car, an Infinity QX4, with a gun inside. He told police the gun was his and said he had an argument with Brock.
Clark will get credit for time served. He has been in prison for a little more than a year while awaiting trial.
