Bellefontaine Neighbors man sentenced in fatal crash, police chase in April 2023

ST. LOUIS — A Bellefontaine Neighbors man was sentenced Thursday to 13 years in prison after he admitted to fleeing police and crashing into another car, killing one person. 

Daryl Powell Jr., 32, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter, armed criminal action, resisting arrest and two counts of child endangerment in the April 4, 2023, crash. 

He was originally charged with second-degree murder and other counts, a press release said. 

According to charging documents, police said they learned Powell was wanted in a robbery and sped from police in St. Louis County. Two toddlers were in the car during the pursuit and crash in the 4600 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Drive in the city of St. Louis.

He was sentenced to 10 years for the manslaughter conviction, plus three years for armed criminal action, a release said. Sentences on the other counts will run concurrently to the 10-year sentence.
