Man shot in head while trying to break into car dies from injuries, police say

The man was unconscious but breathing when officers arrived on the scene

ST. LOUIS — A man police said was shot in the head while trying to break into a car in south St. Louis Monday night died from his injuries Thursday.

Officers were called to the 100 block of Iron Street in the Carondelet neighborhood at around 8:30 for a report of a shooting. When they arrived, they found a 21-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

Officers said he was unconscious but breathing when officers arrived. On Thursday, he died from his injuries. He was identified as 21-year-old David Manley.

During their initial investigation, police said the man was trying to break into a car when he was shot. On Thursday, they added that he had pointed a gun at the man who eventually fired the deadly shot.

The 39-year-old man who fired that shot was taken into custody and then released while officers continue their investigation, police said.

No other information about the shooting was provided.
