Man shot inside downtown St. Louis loft building during attempted hold-up

A 20-year-old man told officers he was going up the stairs inside the Paul Brown lofts when an unknown man grabbed him and announced a robbery.

ST. LOUIS — A man was shot in the neck during an attempted hold-up inside a downtown St. Louis loft building Sunday night.

At 8:38 p.m., police responded to the Paul Brown Loft Apartments at Ninth and Pine streets for the report of a shooting.

A 20-year-old man told officers he was going up the stairs inside the building when an unknown man grabbed him and announced a robbery. The victim said he started fighting off the would-be robber, and during the struggle, he was shot. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to his neck. The gunman ran off.

The man was listed in serious condition and his vitals are stable, police said.

The gunman was described as being 20-23 years old, about 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing 125-150 pounds. The man had a goatee and mustache.
