19-year-old shot, killed in East St. Louis

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. — A 19-year-old man was shot and killed early Sunday morning in East St. Louis. 

The shooting happened shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday in the 600 block of Missouri Avenue, Illinois State Police said. 

Illinois State Police were called to investigate by the East St. Louis Police Department after the victim was found shot and killed in a vacant parking lot. 

He was identified by St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. Monday as Marshon Martin of East St. Louis.

The investigation is ongoing. 

No further information was released regarding the incident.

Cure Violence is an international organization that is present in a handful of St. Louis neighborhoods. Violence interrupters are trained to deescalate violent situations within their own communities.
