ST. LOUIS — A 64-year-old man has been charged in the death of his brother Sunday evening in north St. Louis.

Gregory Allen was charged with first-degree murder, armed criminal action and unlawful possession of a firearm after police said he shot and killed his brother, Robert Allen, who was living in the same home.

According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, Gregory had made numerous threats to his brother in regards to "killing him with a shotgun." Witnesses confirmed these threats to police.

Officers were called shortly after 5:30 p.m. Sunday to a shooting in the 4800 block of Maffitt Avenue in the city's Kingshighway East neighborhood.

There, police found Robert Allen on a porch suffering gunshot wounds to his back.

Police said he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Charging documents said Gregory Allen was on the scene when officers arrived and at first claimed he did not know how his brother died. A shotgun was later recovered and Gregory claimed he had "accidentally shot and killed his brother," documents said.

The Homicide Division assumed the ongoing investigation.
