BRENTWOOD, Mo. — The man accused of stealing a car with a child inside from a Brentwood gas station was arrested Friday afternoon, police said.
Stephen Dunn was arrested in connection to a Thursday car theft at the Mobil station at 2120 S. Brentwood Blvd. The Brentwood Police Department did not say where Dunn was arrested.
He was charged with one count of child kidnapping, endangering the welfare of a child and stealing a motor vehicle, according to court documents.
The car with a 2-year-old child inside was stolen from the gas station at about 4 a.m. Thursday. The mother of the child said she left the vehicle running while she went into the gas station's store to make a purchase, court documents said.
The child was found safe 30 minutes later at the corner of University and Crandon drives in Clayton. Court documents said home surveillance footage showed the suspect taking the child out of the trunk area of the car and leaving them on the front lawn of a residence before driving away.
Police said the car, a blue Chevrolet Equinox, was later found outside of a Super 8 Motel in Pevely, Missouri.
No further information was released regarding the incident.
