VALLEY PARK, Mo. — A man is facing felony charges after police said he stabbed someone Monday morning in Valley Park.

St. Louis County prosecutors on Wednesday charged Patrick Leutzinger, 38, with first-degree assault and armed criminal action.

According to a probable cause statement from the St. Louis County Police Department, at about 9:40 a.m. Tuesday, officers with the City of Valley Park responded to an apartment building in the first block of Cheryl Lane. Witnesses called the police after hearing Leutzinger say "it was a good day to slice someone."

Leutzinger had a knife in his hand when he made the statement and subsequently stabbed the victim shortly after, police said. The victim, who is an acquaintance of Leutzinger, was seriously injured.

Other people inside the home ran away and hid from Leutzinger after the incident. There were no other reported injuries.

Arriving officers found a knife at the scene and arrested Leutzinger. He later admitted to stabbing the victim, police said.

The circumstances that led up to the stabbing remained unclear.

Leutzinger was being held at the St. Louis County Jail on a $100,000 cash-only bond.

Officers with the St. Louis County Police Department City of Valley Park Detail were leading an ongoing investigation.
