Man, woman charged in connection with deadly restaurant shooting in south St. Louis

The Circuit Attorney's Office issued charges against 33-year-old Katrina Kelly and 37-year-old Kyle Penton in connection with the deadly shooting.
St. Louis police said officers responded shortly before 8:40 p.m. Sunday to Sam's Southern Eatery in the 3500 block of Gravois Avenue. A woman was killed.

ST. LOUIS — A man and a woman were charged Wednesday, more than a week after a shooting at a south St. Louis restaurant left one person dead and three others injured.

On Wednesday, the Circuit Attorney's Office issued charges against 33-year-old Katrina Kelly and 37-year-old Kyle Penton in connection with the deadly shooting at Sam's Southern Eatery in the 3500 block of Gravois Avenue, just north of the intersection with Grand Boulevard.

Police said the woman, a 29-year-old man and a 34-year-old man were found with gunshot wounds. They were transported to an area hospital where the woman was pronounced deceased. She was identified on Wednesday as 32-year-old Amber Williams of Florissant.

A 32-year-old man later arrived at the St. Louis hospital with a gunshot wound to the hand.

All three men were listed in stable condition, police said.

Dozens of evidence markers littered the parking lot, and investigators were focusing their attention on a silver Audi parked near the restaurant. A woman who declined to give her name said she heard "a lot of gunshots" and saw two of the four victims get shot.

According to charging documents, Kelly drove Penton and another person to the area where they were seen on security video walking up to a car where three of the victims were and opening fire. The fourth victim was sitting on the sidewalk nearby and was also struck by gunfire.

Police said Kelly admitted to driving the men to the area in her car.

Both Kelly and Penton were each charged with first-degree murder, three counts of assault and four counts of armed criminal action.

Both were being held without bond.
