ST. LOUIS — A south St. Louis woman was sentenced Friday after pleading guilty to stabbing her neighbor to death in July 2022.

Michelle B. Mitchell, 48, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. She fatally stabbed Robin Bonds, 56, in the Chapel View Apartments, located on the 4200 block of Michigan Avenue in the city's Mount Pleasant neighborhood.

The St. Louis Circuit Attorney's Office said Mitchell told police she stabbed Bonds during an argument. Police found a trail of bloody footprints between Bonds' apartment on the third floor of the building and Mitchell's apartment on the fourth floor.

As part of Mitchell's plea deal, her charge was reduced from first-degree murder and prosecutors dismissed a count of armed criminal action, averting a trial that was set for this week.

Mitchell was sentenced to 15 years in prison, with about two years' credit for jail time served since her arrest.
