1 fatally shot early Friday in north St. Louis

The victim was found shortly after 5 a.m. inside a vehicle near Sherman Park.

ST. LOUIS — A homicide investigation was launched early Friday morning after a woman was found shot in the head in north St. Louis.

According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the shooting victim was found at about 5:15 a.m. Friday inside a car at Kingshighway Boulevard and Dr. Martin Luther King Drive, near Sherman Park.

The Homicide Division assumed the investigation.

At the scene, 5 On Your Side team members saw the car in the center northbound lanes of Kingshighway. The car was still on and the passenger side turn signal was flashing. Our team observed the driver's side window smashed out and four bullet holes through windshield, concentrated on the driver's side. 

The passenger side window was either down or smashed out. There was visible front end, passenger side damage. 

The nearby businesses, including the Urban League, did not comment on the crime. Some employees were unaware anything had happened because the road had reopened by the time they came in to work. 

Police have released the victim's name: Ki' shaela Wellington, 20-years-old. 

No other details were available Saturday morning.
