Shooting in north St. Louis leaves man dead early Wednesday

The man was found shot to death in the doorway of a vacant home on Elmbank Avenue.

ST. LOUIS — One person was killed early Wednesday morning in a shooting in north St. Louis.

According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded at about 1 a.m. to a shooting in the 4600 block of Elmbank Avenue, just across the street from Hickey Elementary School in the city's Greater Ville neighborhood. There, they found 17-year-old Demeon Kennedy-Henderson with gunshot wounds lying in the doorway of a vacant home.

The Kennedy-Henderson was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The Homicide Division assumed the ongoing investigation.

What led up to the shooting has not been released by police at this time.

The Bullet Related Injury Clinic (BRIC) is a community-based clinic in St. Louis that helps people heal after they have been injured by a bullet. The BRIC was established to help people who are discharged from the emergency department after being shot.
