ODIN, Ill. -- A former Illinois teacher accused of having sex with students has turned herself in after she was charged Friday with criminal sexual assault.
Lisa Tate, 35, is accused of having sex with two 17-year-olds, but Marion County State's Attorney Matt Wilzbach says she is being charged with sexual assault for her alleged involvement with one teenager at this point based on the evidence that was corroborated so far.
She resigned from her job after roughly 11 years with the district.
Wilzbach says a student took a picture of Tate's vehicle and the student's vehicle in a church parking lot in Odin and pictures were then loaded to Instagram. He also says the other 17-year-old stated their inappropriate relationship took place sometime last fall.
She was released from the Marion County Jail Tuesday on a $50,000 bond.
Seventeen is the age of consent in Illinois, but not when a teacher is involved.
