PHELPS COUNTY, Mo. — The parents of a 14-month-old Missouri girl who died from fentanyl poisoning more than a year and a half ago were taken into custody Tuesday and are facing criminal charges.
According to a post from the Phelps County Sheriff's Department, 25-year-old Caleb Gorman and 24-year-old Corissa Botkin were charged Tuesday in connection with their daughter's. Both parents were charged with one county of abuse or neglect of a child resulting in death in connection with the March 9, 2023, death.
The post said a 2023 investigation into her death by the Phelps County Sheriff's Department and Phelps County coroner found that she died from fentanyl poisoning.
The post said the investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Phelps County Sheriff's Department and Phelps County Coroner.
“The Phelps County community is urged to remain vigilant and to report any suspected child abuse or neglect to local authorities," Phelps County Sheriff Michael P. Kirn said in the post. "Protecting our children is a shared responsibility; we must work together to create a safe environment for every child.”
Gorman and Botkin are both being held without bond.
