20-year-old shot, killed in north St. Louis

ST. LOUIS — A 20-year-old man was shot and killed in a shooting Tuesday afternoon in St. Louis' Penrose neighborhood. 

According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the incident happened shortly before 3:30 p.m. in the 4200 block of Shreve Avenue.

Police said officers found a man with a gunshot wound to his head. He was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

He was pronounced dead at 8:30 p.m., police said. 

He was identified as Calvin Kelly, of the 4800 block of Shreve Avenue. 

The Homicide Division is investigating.

Cure Violence is an international organization that is present in a handful of St. Louis neighborhoods. Violence interrupters are trained to deescalate violent situations within their own communities.
