'Person of interest' determined in case of Jefferson County woman's months-long disappearance and death

The Jefferson County mother disappeared in April and her remains were found in late September. The cause of her death is still under investigation.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. — Detectives have now developed a person of interest in the ongoing investigation of a Jefferson County woman's death.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said detectives determined the person of interest from the tips received in the days after Emily Strite's body was located.

Strite was declared missing on Apr. 20, and her remains were found Sept. 28.

According to her family, the 33-year-old mom disappeared from the De Soto area on Apr. 12 where she was living with friends.

The sheriff's office added that "it may take quite some time to learn Emily's cause of death, which is actually common in most cases."

The investigation by the sheriff's office and medical examiner's office is still ongoing.

A spokesperson said, "Even without the cause of death, we’re still able to advance the case on our end."

Strite's mother said right now they are working to get a donation page set up on Equusearch in honor of her daughter and there will be a vigil soon.
