St. Louis police investigating after 2-year-old boy dies from blunt force trauma

ST. LOUIS — A 2-year-old boy's death from blunt force trauma Friday night is being investigated as a homicide, police said. 

According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, child abuse detectives responded around 7:45 p.m. to an area hospital in response to an assault. 

A 2-year-old boy was unresponsive and had bruising on his abdomen. He was pronounced dead shortly before 8:30 p.m.

He was identified by police as Mario Mitchell.

The cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma, police said. 

The Homicide Division is investigating. 

St. Louis police did not release where the assault happened or any suspect information. No further information was available as of Monday night.
