Police investigate string of overnight burglaries at 6 Florissant food establishments

It's concerning to the business owners, but one manager is more determined to help the community.

FLORISSANT, Mo. — Police are investigating a string of overnight break-ins at six businesses in Florissant.

There are surveillance cameras all around Papa Johns in Florissant. That did not stop people from stealing thousands of dollars. The business’s operator tells us it makes them more determined to serve the community.

“It definitely does jeopardize what we’re trying to do here in the community,” said Felicia Mont, the Papa Johns operator in Florissant.

She came to work this morning to something she never expected.

“They broke in through the front window which is right behind you guys, just hit it with a hammer, kicked out the glass, came inside, pried our till out and took our safe,” she said.

Her business was one of six Florissant food establishments targeted overnight. The others: Brennan's Bar, Qdoba, Edible Arrangements, and two Subways.

“We were just really happy that this happened after close and we didn’t have any employees inside,” said Mont.

We talked with people nearby, like 20-year-old Jordan Jackson.

“I think it’s concerning,” said Jackson, who lives nearby.

Working at a camp this summer, he said his dream is to ultimately open a restaurant. But boarded up windows at local businesses make him think twice.

“I’m definitely going to start somewhere else if I’m going to start my businesses, not in the immediate St. Louis area,” he said.

Meanwhile Mont tells us they’re here to stay.

“Don’t let this deter you from coming to local businesses… Because the more community involvement, hopefully the less these situations can happen,” she said.

Mont tells us the people who stole from her business were in and out in about 2 and a half minutes. Meanwhile, police are still working to find out who’s responsible.
