ST. LOUIS — Months after a man was shot and killed in downtown St. Louis, city police have launched a homicide investigation into his death.

Officers responded to a call for a shooting just after 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 1 in the 4100 block of Market Street, near Stifel Theatre, according to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department. Officers found 46-year-old Deanthony Smith of St. Louis with a gunshot wound to his lower left leg.

Smith was taken to an area hospital, where he later died on Nov. 26, police said.

On March 1, the St. Louis Medical Examiner's Office conducted an autopsy and determined Smith's cause of death to be "homicide due to complications of a gunshot wound" and contacted police.

The Homicide Division assumed the ongoing investigation.

Anyone with information about the shooting was asked to contact the Homicide Division at 314-444-5371. To remain anonymous, contact CrimeStoppers at 1-866-371-TIPS (8477).
