ST. LOUIS — St. Louis police are looking for a man they said held his ex-girlfriend and her child hostage earlier this week, in violation of a protection order.
A St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department spokesperson said officers are looking for 21-year-old Martez Hopgood in connection with an incident in the city's Kingshighway West neighborhood.
Police said Hopgood held his ex-girlfriend and her child hostage at a home on Terry Avenue from 8 p.m. on Wednesday to 1 a.m. on Thursday morning. The woman told police she and her child were able to escape early Thursday morning and fled to a home about a block away, where they called 911.
The woman said Hopgood assaulted her while he was holding them captive.
Hopgood fled the scene before police could arrive and has not been taken into custody as of Friday morning, police said.
On Friday, the department released Hopgood's name and said he was wanted in connection with the alleged kidnapping. Police said he is about 6-foot-2 and 160 pounds.
Ring doorbell camera video shared with 5 On Your Side showed the woman and child trying to get into the nearby home. The video also shows a man coming to the door moments after they are let inside.
A man is seen on the doorbell camera moments later.
Police said they have not been able to obtain the video from the original owner and are not able to confirm if the man in the video is Hopgood.
Anyone with information on Hopgood's whereabouts is asked to call 911.
