Police investigating shooting near downtown Belleville, Illinois

Witnesses said there was a confrontation between two men who then left the scene after shots were fired.

BELLEVILLE, Ill. — One person was injured after a shooting Monday morning near downtown Belleville, Illinois. 

According to the Belleville Police Department, officers responded to a report of shots fired at 7:20 a.m. in the area of the first block of East D Street. 

Witnesses said there was a confrontation between two men who then left the scene after shots were fired.

Officers located evidence that shots had been fired and that someone was struck in the area, police said.

Shortly before 9 a.m., police were notified a man arrived at a local hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his hand. 

No further information was released regarding the investigation.
