ST. LOUIS — A man fatally shot a passenger in his SUV while shooting at the occupants of another SUV in a road rage incident Sunday night, police said.
St. Louis police said Angelo McNeal, 51, was driving a white Ford Escape on Interstate 70 at about 10 p.m. when he and the victim started firing shots at a red SUV. As shots were being fired, McNeal shot the victim in the leg.
McNeal admitted to police that he and Barry Martin, 45, were shooting at the red SUV, according to charging documents. Officers located McNeal's SUV near the intersection of Lillian and Mikika avenues in the city's Walnut Park West neighborhood.
Prosecutors charged McNeal with one count each of second-degree murder, discharging or shooting a firearm at or from a motor vehicle, and unlawful possession of a firearm, and two counts of armed criminal action. He was uninjured in the shooting.
McNeal has a lengthy criminal record, including pleading guilty to several felony drug and weapons charges dating back to the early 1990s.
McNeal was being held at the St. Louis City Justice Center without bond. At attorney for McNeal was not listed in online court records.
At least five people were injured in Christmas Eve shootings in St. Louis. Three of those people died, including the victim in the road rage shooting.
