ST. LOUIS — A rural mail carrier in north-central Missouri admitted to stealing Menards rebates from July to August of 2023.
In a press release, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri Sayler Fleming said 59-year-old Dawn Dowling pleaded guilty in federal court to one felony count of embezzlement of mail by a Postal Service employee.
According to the press release, Dowling was a rural carrier associated assigned to routes in Moberly, Huntsville, Cairo, Higbee, Jacksonville and Excello. The release said Dowling stole rebates from at least 20 customers totaling at least $1,100.
She then used the rebates at Menards stores in Missouri and Illinois.
The press release said Dowling could face up to five years in prison or a fine of up to $250,000.
The U.S. Postal Service – Office of Inspector General investigated the case.
