ST. LOUIS — The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department held a procession for a police officer who died Sunday after being struck by a vehicle while responding to a crash on Interstate 70.
Officer David Lee died Sunday after he was critically injured in a crash while helping an off-duty Ferguson firefighter who was involved in a crash. Lee was placing flares when he was struck by a man who was suspected of driving while intoxicated and speeding, police said.
St. Louis Metropolitan Police vehicles escorted Lee's body from the medical examiner's office to the funeral home at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at Friendly Temple Missionary Baptist Church, located at 5515 Dr. Martin Luther King Drive. Funeral service will follow at 1 p.m.
"The SLMPD lost a dedicated police officer and beloved colleague," St. Louis Police Chief Robert Tracy said in a statement Tuesday. He said Lee was a devoted husband and father of two children.
The man accused of striking Lee, Ramon Arnaldo Chavez-Rodriguez, is facing multiple charges.
