Rash of attempted carjackings in west St. Louis County neighborhoods

The most recent happened Wednesday in Kirkwood. Frontenac and Ladue police are also investigating similar attempted carjacking incidents.

ST. LOUIS — Three west St. Louis County municipal police departments are investigating at least three attempted carjackings since Oct. 8 that could be connected.

The most recent incident happened at 3:58 a.m. in Kirkwood on Wednesday.

According to a police report, a rideshare driver was picking up a passenger on Hartmann Court when another car tried to block the victim’s vehicle in the driveway.

The victim told investigators two men got out of that car and tapped on the driver’s window with a gun and pointed it at him.

The victim said the men demanded he get out of the car.

The rideshare driver’s passenger then opened their garage door to get into the car, which spooked the men. They then ran back to their car and sped away, according to police.

The victim told police he believed the suspects may have followed him from Manchester Road.

On Nov. 1, police in Ladue responded to reports of shots fired shortly after 4 p.m. on Ladue Ridge, just west of the intersection of Interstate 64 and South McKnight Road.

At least three people wearing ski masks fired one shot into a victim's vehicle while trying to carjack them, police said.

No one was injured and there was no ongoing threat to the neighborhood, according to Ladue police.

The next morning, on Nov. 2, St. Louis County police said two juvenile suspects were arrested in connection with the Ladue incident.

Two teenagers, ages 14 and 15, were each charged with first-degree endangering the welfare of a child, unlawful use of a weapon and resisting arrest. They are not being identified because they are juveniles.

A similar attempted carjacking happened on Oct. 8, on South Lindbergh Boulevard, in Frontenac.

Frontenac police tell Five on Your Side they are looking into whether that incident may be connected to other attempted carjackings in the area.

Frontenac police did not provide any other details, saying releasing additional information could jeopardize their investigation.
