ST. LOUIS — An investigation is underway after a woman was pistol-whipped and robbed in St. Louis Shaw neighborhood Monday night.
Police responded to the 4000 block of Shenandoah around 10:45 p.m. where a 29-year-old woman said she had just parked her car and got out when two unknown men approached her.
The two men pointed a gun at her and demanded purse. One of the men hit the woman in the head with a gun after she started screaming. Both men then left the scene with the woman’s purse.
The woman refused medical treatment.
According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s crime statistics, robberies have more than doubled in the Shaw neighborhood this year. In 2018, the neighborhood had eight robberies and from January to September 2019, there have been 20 robberies.
Nonprofit, Shaw Neighborhood Ownership Model-St. Louis, posted on Facebook that they keep asking elected leaders for help, but they’re not getting any response or additional resources.
A spokesperson for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department said within the last week, the South Patrol Divison has recently created a Robbery Detail, consisting of 10 officers and one sergeant. They are on patrol to specifically handle robbery incidents, and the coverage area does include the Shaw Neighborhood. Additionally, police said at least one of their 'mobile trainers, also known as 'SkyCops' have been deployed in the area as well.
