Cahokia Heights man found fatally shot in vehicle Tuesday night

Police found the man dead inside a vehicle on Mitchell Lane.

CAHOKIA HEIGHTS, Ill — The Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis was activated to investigate a deadly shooting that happened Tuesday night in Cahokia Heights.

According to a news release from the Major Case Squad, Cahokia Heights police responded at about 10 p.m. to a shooting in the area of 5895 Mitchell Lane. There, they found a man who had been shot inside his vehicle following a crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim was identified as 48-year-old Lakarlo Williams of Cahokia Heights.

As of Wednesday morning, Major Case Squad investigators were actively working on leads to identify the suspect responsible for the deadly shooting. Anyone with information was asked to contact the Major Case Squad at 618-332-4277.

The Bullet Related Injury Clinic (BRIC) is a community-based clinic in St. Louis that helps people heal after they have been injured by a bullet. The BRIC was established to help people who are discharged from the emergency department after being shot.
