ST. LOUIS — Two women were critically injured after their car was shot at early Sunday morning in St. Louis' Lafayette Square, causing their vehicle to crash.

According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded just after 3 a.m. Sunday to a crash in the 1500 block of South Jefferson Avenue. There, they found a 49-year-old woman with a bullet wound to her temple and a 27-year-old woman who had been shot in the leg.

Police said the victims were in a car driving down Jefferson Avenue when the occupants of a dark-colored sedan began shooting at them. The victims' car then crashed into a light pole.

The victims were taken to an area hospital with critical injuries. A third woman was in the vehicle but suffered no physical injuries.

As of Monday morning, there have been no reports of an arrest from police.
