14-year-old wounded by gunfire Thursday night in LaSalle Park neighborhood

Th shooting happened at about 11:30 p.m. Thursday while the boy was walking on Hickory Street.

ST. LOUIS — A 14-year-old boy was hospitalized early Friday morning after a shooting in St. Louis' LaSalle Park neighborhood.

According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the teen was conscious and breathing when he arrived at a local hospital at about 12:15 a.m. Friday with a graze wound to his left leg.

Police said the shooting happened at about 11:30 p.m. Thursday while the boy was walking in the 1000 block of Hickory Street, near Lebanon Drive.

Just hours earlier, a 17-year-old boy was shot Thursday afternoon in the 1000 block of Hickory Street. As of Friday morning, police did not say if the shootings were at all related.

As of Friday morning, investigations were ongoing into both incidents. Investigators did not have a definitive indication the incidents were related but were actively looking into the possibility.

Cure Violence is an international organization that is present in a handful of St. Louis neighborhoods. Violence interrupters are trained to de-escalate violent situations within their own communities.
